AC ANTI-FROST SWITCH REMOVAL

[9000, 900 79-94]

The purpose of the AC Anti-frost switch is to prevent the AC evaporator from freezing up during prolonged use. A wire gets inserted from the Anti-frost switch into the evaporator which monitors the evaporator temperature and shuts the AC off accordingly. When the Anti-frost switch fails the relay power supply is cutoff causing the AC to quit working.

Replacement of the switch is a bit awkward due to its location. On both the Saab 900 and the Saab 9000 the switch is located under the dash as far over to the right as possible. It can be accessed by lying down in the passenger floorboard and looking up on the right side of the dash close to the air vent. On the 900 cars the nut for switch itself must be accessed from under the hood on the right side but the switch is inside the car.
